Ride-Away Handicap Equipment Corp. (America?s largest provider of wheelchair accessible vans and adaptive mobility equipment) was recently ranked 35th on Business NH Magazine?s Top 100 New Hampshire Private Companies list. In just three short years Ride-Away has gone from being ranked 47th to 35th. This is a big accomplishment considering the economic hardships which has seen many fall in this industry over the years.
?Our continued growth and success, especially in today?s economy, is something that Ride-Away is very proud of,? says Mark Lore, President and CEO of Ride-Away. ?Being in the automotive industry, it has been that much more difficult for companies such as ours to grow over the past few years, but with the support of our customers, the community, and the hard work that our employees have put forth, we will continue to grow and expand as a company well into the future.?
Thousands of companies throughout New Hampshire submitted their companies? information, but only the top 100 were selected. Out of those 100 companies selected for the list, 33 percent of businesses on the Business New Hampshire Magazine?s list of the Top 100 Private Companies in New Hampshire grew in the past three years, and Ride-Away was one of them. By committing themselves to carry out their core values, Ride-Away has been able to become not only a leader in the vehicle modification industry, but a leader in business throughout New Hampshire as well.
One of the reasons for Ride-Away?s continued success has been because of the support of their local communities. Whether it?s getting involved in a civic organization, running a relay to fight Multiple Sclerosis or joining in a wide range of community activities, that dedication to serve has been a benchmark for Ride-Away and its employees since the beginning. Together their 165 employees donate more than 7,000 hours of volunteer time to reach into their communities and support local initiatives. Most recently, Ride-Away donated a handicap van to a 13 year-old boy named Isaiah Gomez, who has been actively living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy since he was 4 years-old. Isaiah had outgrown his previous handicap van after being fitted for a larger power wheelchair, and his family had to rely on transportation agencies to get him to and from school and doctors appointments. Not being able to enjoy many of the things Isaiah loved to do, such as go to the movies, Ride-Away knew they had to step in and help right away. So, Ride-Away decided to donate a wheelchair accessible vehicle to Isaiah and his family, and now, Isaiah is able to do the things he has always wanted to do, and go to the places that he has always wanted to go.
Ride-Away?s continued successes have been because of their dedication to their customers by providing them with the highest quality vehicles, equipment, and service. In a time when many companies were cutting back and looking for other cheaper options for equipment and service, Ride-Away continued to seek out the best mobility equipment that the industry had to offer as well as raise the level of their customer service to be able to better serve the customers. Ride-Away also introduced two new, ground breaking, wheelchair accessible vehicles that the industry has not seen before; the GoShichi wheelchair accessible pick-up truck and the Mobility Conquest wheelchair accessible motorcycle. These two products give Ride-Away customers more unique options, and they also provide a freedom and sense of normalcy that some customers have not experienced in years. During the Abilities Expo this past May, an attendee of the expo was brought to tears when he was able to get back into a pick-up truck and realize that he could again enjoy going on hunting and fishing trips with his friends and family; something he had not been able to do for over 25 years.
Ride-Away?s employees have also been a reason for the success of Ride-Away. Their commitment to the company, the community, and their customers is at a different level than it has ever been before. During this past holiday season, Ride-Away employees donated thousands of dollars worth of toys and food to local families, as well as local organizations such as the NH Food Bank and the Toys for Tots Program. Ride-Aways? employees commitments do not stop after the holiday season; as a part of a year-round fundraiser, employees are allowed to wear jeans to work any day of the week for $ 5. That donation goes to the Ride-Away Comfort for a Cause Program, in which the proceeds are collected and saved up for when there is a need for when local customers, clients, charities, or someone in the community needs help. This past February, a portion of the donations were used to purchase gift certificates for The Way Home, an award winning non-profit organization based out of Manchester NH. The Way Home employees transported clients around in a vehicle that was in serious need of repairs and remodeling, which was unable to be done due to budget constraints. Using a portion of the funds raised through the Comfort for a Cause program, Ride-Away was able to provide The Way Home with gift cards to Manchester Car Was, Jiffy Lube, Meineke, Shaw?s, and Stop-N-Shop. The Way Home is now able to get their clients to interviews, the grocery store, and many other places they once did not have the chance to get to. This program has raised over $ 7,000 since starting in 2008. This fundraising initiative has helped many families and local organizations obtain the transportation they need and have toys for their children on Christmas. During these tough economic times, the employees at Ride-Away have continued to give back more than ever, not because they are asked to, but because it is what they were meant to do.
?We have continued to carry out the core values of Ride-Away, which is one of the major reasons for our continued successes,? Jaime Kuczewski, Ride-Away Vice President said. ?Our corporate culture is one built upon always doing the right thing and making a difference in the communities we work and live in. Ride-Away strives to increase the quality of live in our communities because it directly affects the success of our business.?
Ride-Away hopes to continue to grow and succeed as a company that provides wheelchair accessible vans and vehicle modification for people with disabilities by relying on the same core values they have had since 1986. For more information about Ride-Away visit http://www.Ride-Away.com.

Late on Saturday night, 2009 November 21, a very bright meteor was seen flashing across the sky from the northern parts of South Africa. Tim Cooper, Director of the ASSA Comet & Meteor Section, estimates that the apparent magnitude of the meteorite was -18. “I think it is highly likely it hit the ground somewhere north of our borders,” Tim writes. He notes that the most northerly sighting came from north of Gweru, Zimbabwe. “Reports also from as far west as Rustenburg, and as far east as Ezulwini, Swaziland” were received, he writes. The size of the meteorite has been estimated as that of a washing machine. Kos Coronaios has received several reports all of which describe something bright, seen around 23:00, moving from east to west (or south-east to north-west). One report Kos received even notes that a rumbling sound was heard, with trembles that caused paint to fall off a wall! He writes: “Reports of the event on Saturday (21/11) evening received so far this morning from: Pretoria, Tzaneen, Potgietesrus, Polokwane, Louis Trichardt, Levubu, Vivo, Alldays. “All consistent with a bright flash of light that was visible with no sound (except from the Vivo, Alldays region). Tablet PC provider MobileDemand, in collaboration with Norfolk Southern Corporation, has been named in the 11th annual listing of the Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine?s ?100 Great Supply Chain Projects.? Norfolk Southern, a leader in the railroad industry, is using approximately 1,200 MobileDemand xTablet T8700s to improve their in transit visibility in a 2 year deployment for 11 divisions, over the 2011 and 2012 calendar years.
Norfolk Southern?s GPS based In Transit Visibility solution, Remote Intelligent Terminal (RIT), is part of their Track 2012 process, a plan to significantly improve all aspects of the company?s business. As crews arrive at a customer location, they receive automatic updates on which cars they will work with and their locations. That data is then transmitted into Norfolk Southern?s Thoroughbred Yard Enterprise System using a MobileDemand docking station in crew rooms and a land line or wireless transmission.
Prior to RIT implementation, Norfolk Southern crews recorded information on paper and faxed it to centralized yard operations at the end of the workday. RIT on the xTablet 8700 saves time over conventional methods and ensure more accurate and accessible data reporting.
?RIT is an important development for NS customers and employees. Our customers get timely, accurate information when they want it, and our crews have a tool that helps them be more productive,? said Norfolk Southern?s Brad Fitzgerald, director OSS (Operation Support Services).
Through an online submission process, Supply & Demand Chain Executive collected information on supply chain transformation projects, including information on the objectives, scope, timeline and results of the project. The submissions were evaluated by the magazine’s editorial staff primarily based on: ambitiousness/scope of the project; creative application of technologies/solutions/services used; extent of the business results/impact; and clarity of submission.
“Our goal with this year’s ’100′ is to put the spotlight on successful and innovative transformation projects that are delivering bottom-line value to small, medium and large enterprises across the different functions that comprise the supply chain,” Hochfelder added. “The projects featured in the ’100′ article can serve as a roadmap for supply chain executives looking for new opportunities to drive improvement in their own operations.”
After receiving nomination forms, the Supply & Demand Chain Executive editorial staff identified applicants that best fit the stated criteria for the “100.” The complete listing of the 2012 Supply & Demand Chain Executive 100 award winners will be available at http://www.sdcexec.com on May 2. Extended coverage of the SDCE100 will appear in the June 2012 issue of Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine and online thereafter.
